Code of Conduct
The following practices are in place to reassure parents and carers that children in our care are safe:
– Teachers and guest teachers have been Garda Vetted and have completed First Aid training.
– The school has public liability insurance that is renewed each year.
– Teachers have Registered teacher status with the British Theatre Dance Association and undertake training courses to ensure that their knowledge is up to date.
MOBILE PHONES
Mobile phones are not to be used during class time and should be switched off or silenced to avoid disruption to the class.
BULLYING
Bullying of any sort through physical/ emotional or social media will not be tolerated. Reports of bullying will be investigated promptly. Any one found to be engaging in bullying behaviour may beremoved from classes indefinitely.
PHYSICAL CONTACT
In the course of teaching dance it is necessary at times to touch pupils to adjust posture or to correct
a position. This is in accordance with standard practice that avoids touching sensitive parts of the body. A pupil who feels uncomfortable with being touched may approach the teacher in confidence and ask her/him not to do so in future. Physical contact with young children is necessary when holding hands in order to form a circle which helps focus attention and ensures all children can see the teacher and be seen, or for comfort if they slip.
LCDA UNIFORM
Each dancer is responsible for coming to class in correct dance attire, with long hair neatly tied up. Our school colours are black, gold and white. A selection of dancewear – leotards, leggings, crop tops and shorts are available on our online dancewear store http://lcd.mydancestore.co.uk. Dance Shoes and accessories can also be purchased from the online store. LCDA tracksuit tops and Tshirts and bags are available to order from Jako Sports on Markievicz Road.
COSTUMES
Dance costumes provided by us for shows and competitions should be returned after use in the same condition in which you received them. Most of our costumes are professionally made and are expensive to replace. Therefore we asked they are treated with due care. A small deposit will be required to rent the costumes and all costumes that are not returned will be charged at full rate. Occasionally we will ask parents to cover the full cost of a new costume for an event or show (Lisa will order from the costume maker or supplier on your behalf, unless it is for a solo performance) in which case the costume will belong to you and will not need to be returned to us, although these costumes may be used in future performances so again it’s advised you take good care of them.
DATA PROTECTION
Information given on school registration forms will never be shared with third parties and is retained for the sole use of Lisa Cooper Dance Academy.
PHOTO REPRODUCTION
Written permission from parents and guardians will always be sought before an image of a pupil is used for marketing or for the school website or printed in local newspapers
FUNDRAISING AND MEDIA
All fundraising events must be passed through the LCDA committee and Lisa Cooper will have all final say on upcoming events. Press releases and media coverage must all be put forward to Lisa before any final print details have been agreed.
COMPETITIONS
LCDA will be attending a range of competitions throughout the year. Rehearsals for competitions are held outside of our regular class schedule. Competition classes and rehearsals are strictly invite only and places are very limited due to the rehearsal time available and the limitations set by WLDF. Dancers will be selected by Lisa, based on their consistent performance and abilities in class and not at the request of the parents or the child’s duration at the school. When selecting competitors, our decision is based on, but not restricted to, commitment and determination, strong technique and alignments, flexibility, confidence, stage presence and performance skills, self motivation and ability to handle increased pressure.
At competitions all dancers and parents must act and behave in an appropriate manner and familiarise themselves with WLDF rules on etiquette at such events. Accepting every victory with a humble heart and every defeat with a gracious mind is the best way to live in this world. Win or lose, life goes on!!
Please be respectful to your team mates but also to your fellow opponents.
TRIPS AWAY
Each parent is responsible for the discipline of there own child when travelling, unnecessary drama and carrying stories will not be tolerated.
