What are we about?
The Lisa Cooper Dance Academy was established 2012 and is based in the Avalon Centre in Sligo town.
Lisa Cooper is an ex professional dancer and a fully registered Dance Teacher with The British Theatre Dance Association (BTDA). The school caters for children from 3 years old upwards. Classes cover a wide range of dance styles including Classical Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical, Acrobatics Tap and Commercial.
The aim of the LCDA is to provide a safe, fun, learning environment for children to enjoy the art of dance and performance, grow in confidence and meet new friends. We welcome children of all abilities, catering for those who want to dance for fun, as well as those who wish to pursue a career in dance. The children are given opportunities to perform at various events throughout the year.
During the year children also have the option of taking medal tests and graded examinations with the BTDA. These encourage the children to express themselves through dance whilst working towards qualifications that open up career opportunities.
Since the school opened in 2012, many of our dancers have enjoyed some amazing experiences such as performing in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre for the WLDF World Championships as well as television appearances on BBCs The Greatest Dancer, Ireland’s Got Talent (Live Final ), The Big Deal and RTE’s Late Late Toy Show for 2 consecutive years.
